ANGELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Seventeen Chihuahuas are now waiting to be adopted at the MSPCA in Boston and on Cape Cod.

The dogs came from three families from the same building.

"Unfortunately, they were all in the position where they couldn't keep them," MSPCA spokesperson Anna Rafferty Arnold said. "They did lose their home, so they reached out to us and asked for help."

They were first nervous when they first arrived, but Rafferty Arnold says the dogs are adjusting to their new environment at the shelters.

"We still have a couple that aren't quite ready to go yet, especially the group at our Cape Cod location are a little bit shyer," Rafferty Arnold said. "So they're still kind of settling in and getting to know the staff."

The energetic dogs are both loyal companions and portable pets.

"But these guys, we've evaluated everybody and we feel they are ready to go and find their new homes," Rafferty Arnold added.

Forty-five Ragdoll cats were also surrendered this month, making it a busy time at the MSPCA.
