Haverhill Police Arrest Package Thieves, Write Poem About It

HAVERHILL (WBZ-AM) -- The Haverhill Police Department caught two men they say were stealing packages off porches in the city--but it was the creative way they let the public know about it that grabbed attention.

The department posted a holiday-themed poem Sunday about the arrest, detailing how a neighbor spotted the would-be thieves and reported them to police.

"Twas the month before Christmas, when somewhere in the City, two men were stirring, about to act very silly," the poem begins.

The packages were returned and the two men, who were not identified, were arrested.

Just one day earlier, the department warned about holiday package theft on their Facebook page, asking residents to take note of unfamiliar vehicles in their neighborhood and to leave detailed delivery instructions whenever possible.

"In the past, the persons committing these crimes have often followed the delivery trucks around in vehicles, stealing packages almost immediately after they were dropped off," they wrote.
