Andrew Lelling Sworn In As US Attorney For Massachusetts

BOSTON (AP) - Andrew Lelling has been sworn in as the U.S. attorney for Massachusetts.Lelling was sworn in on Thursday as the state's chief federal law enforcement officer.

 He was nominated by President Donald Trump in September and confirmed by the Senate earlier this month.

Lelling has served in the Justice Department for 16 years and has worked as a prosecutor in both Massachusetts and the Eastern District of Virginia.

As senior litigation counsel for the office in Massachusetts, he trained prosecutors and developed enforcement policy for criminal prosecutions.

Lelling said in a statement earlier this month that he is honored to become U.S attorney.

Lelling replaces Carmen Ortiz, who stepped down from the post shortly before Trump took office in January. 

William Weinreb served as acting U.S. attorney after Ortiz's departure.
