Couple Accidentally Donates Soup Can Filled With Cash Savings

MIDDLETON (WBZ-AM) -- A retired couple from Middleton say they accidentally donated a soup can that was filled with cash.

A neighbor stopped by, asking if they could donate anything to the local food pantry--so their daughter, Amanda Mattuchio, told WBZ-TV they did just that.

"And so my mom went into the cabinet, grabbed a bunch of cans, looked at the Campbell's tomato soup, 'Oh, we don't eat that very much,'" Mattuchio said.

But that can had around $2,500 in cash the couple had saved.

"That's a lot of money to them," Mattuchio said. "That's a lot of money to anybody, but especially when you're retired ... She didn't realize that it was gone until several weeks later."

Mattuchio said her parents hope someone comes forward, but her dad says if that doesn't happen, then it's probably with someone who really needs the money.
