Fake Market Basket Facebook Page Asks For Customer's Personal Information

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Market Basket is warning customers about an unauthorized Facebook page that is trying to pose as the grocery store chain.

The company took to their official Facebook page on Monday to announce that there is an account pretending to be Market Basket.

The fake account was sending friend requests to users and asking for their personal information.

The scammers were telling users that they are trying to get their information for the “Drink Up, Work Out” giveaway.

Market Basket said on the store’s official page that they “do not send friend requests to our customers, and if you receive a friend request from a profile that appears to be Market Basket, please know that it is not from us.”

The grocery store chain reported that they only have one Facebook account: https://www.facebook.com/marketbasket.

They also stated, “Market Basket will never request payment information online, and we ask our community to be vigilant and to not provide this information to other Facebook pages. The safety and privacy of our customers is very important to us and we are working diligently to address this concern.”
