Des Linden, Winner Of 2018 Marathon, Returns To Boston For Patriot’s Day

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Marathon may be postponed until October, but many people are still running the route this Patriot’s Day.

The B.A.A. encouraged everyone to celebrate Patriot’s Day by running a mile or more.

“[It’s] really to encourage everyone to get out and get active in any distance that they can,” B.A.A. spokesperson Kendra Butters said.

Des Linden, winner of the 2018 Boston Marathon returned to the city help promote the postponed race in October and to welcome new runners.

Linden ran with a group made up of mostly essential and healthcare workers for the Patriot’s Day mile.

“I think it’s just a little taste of what’s to come, and obviously we all want to be doing the main event, but we’re going to wait a little longer,” she said.

Linden also announced she will be running the 125th Boston Marathon, surprising those essential workers by inviting them to run with her.

“It was fun to see them mentally adjusting their plans that immediately when they were handed their bib,” Linden said.

Other runners were out on the route Monday morning.

Kristi Lynn, of Seattle, crossed the finish line for her own personal half-marathon. She said she is “grateful” after having had a heart attack two years ago.

“To be able to get up and run, it’s really quite emotional to be on this route. There’s nothing like the Boston route. And doing it 25 years ago with my brother, it just brought a lot of memories back,” Kristi said.

Sue and Chad also ran 13.1 miles Monday morning.

“It’s a lot of fun. It’s touching to see the memorial here; that’s kind of hard,” Chad said.
