BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The United States of America lives on to play another day at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and it was all cheers in bars and homes across Boston when that final whistle blew.
With a 1-0 win over Iran, the U.S. soccer team will proceed to the next round of 16 to face off against the Netherlands on Saturday. The sole and game-winning goal in the first half came from Christian Pulisic, who put his body on the line to dive and sink the ball into the net.
WBZ's Suzanne Sausville was at the Banshee sports pub in Dorchester for the watch party that had the place packed wall to wall.
"It's a fantastic result, it can't get much better than that," said one fan.
"It was really disappointing to miss the World Cup in 2018, and to see the hype and energy for this right now is just absolutely incredible," said another.

The U.S. dominated in offense until Iran took control in the second half of the game, though defensive maneuvers and saves from former New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner kept the lead.
