BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A portion of a vacant building that was under construction in the North End collapsed Friday night.
The collapse happened just after 11 p.m. on North Street.
“The building that’s under construction and damaged the adjacent building’s fire escape, so they had to evacuate the adjacent building,” Boston Fire Department’s Brian Alkins said.
The evacuated building, on Fleet Street, was left with only one manner of egress, which is one less than required.
Four residents were forced out of their homes, and will remain so until the fire escape is repaired.
The Department of Inspectional Services is still evaluating the cause of the building’s collapse.
