BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's that time of year some college students put away the books and hit the road for sunnier skies.
It's spring break season for many of the universities and colleges across New England.
It wasn't difficult finding local college students gathered at departure gates at Logan Airport anticipating their flights south.
Chris and Steve were among a group of four from Bowdoin College looking forward to sun and sand. "We're heading to Miami... for about five days," Chris said.
Students are still heading to Miami Beach despite attempts by Miami city officials to 'break-up' with college students who visit that location each spring.
In an effort to prevent unruly crowds and arrests on the beach that have plagued that area, the city recently released a public service announcement asking students to stay away. "It's not us. It's you," the video explains.
Harvard, Boston University, and UMass Boston are just a few of the local schools now on spring break.
Families too were using spring break to get away to a warmer climate, like Barbara and her family headed to the Grand Cayman Islands. "We're heading on a cruise to celebrate my godson's birthday," Barbara said.
The first official day of spring is Tuesday, March 19.
