BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is in recovery at Massachusetts General Hopsital after being shot in the back Sunday night in the Dominican Republic.
Ortiz’s wife, Tiffany, said in a statement on Wednesday that he is recuperating in the intensive care unit at the hospital.
“Yesterday and this morning, David was able to sit up as well as take some steps. His condition is guarded and he will remain in the ICU for the coming days, but he is making good progress towards recovery,” Tiffany said in the statement.
Tiffany went on to thank everyone for their “endless love and well wishes,” and asked that the public gives the family privacy as “David continues to heal.”
Multiple arrests have been made following the shooting of the legendary Red Sox player, including the suspected gunman.
Ortiz suffered injuries to his internal organs, causing some of them to be treated or removed.
