BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Handel and Haydn Society has named Dr. Anthony Trecek-King as the new resident conductor of the H + H Chorus.
Trecek-King is a black man and said the new position with Handel and Haydn is still groundbreaking.
“Part of my role is to kind of be representative,” Treceik-King said.
And he has especially felt the shift within in the classical music world.
“There’s not a ton of people of color in that world. So, I’ve received phone calls from all over the country going ‘Wow, this is actually a really big deal. I’m glad to see someone who looks like me being a part of that organization,’” Trecek-King said.
Trecek-King previously served as the artistic director of the Boston Children's Chorus. He's also recently been appointed Associate Professor of Choral Music and Director of Choral Activities at the The Hartt School, which is part of the University of Hartford.
