CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Harvard Medical School researchers believe they are one step closer to developing better treatments for a problem most people can relate to... itching.
Whatever the cause of the itch, while normally nothing serious, itching can be an indication of a more serious illness.
Either way, researchers think they have discovered the specific bacteria that trigger nerve cells on our skin to cause that irresistible urge to scratch.
That discovery could pave the way for developing more effective itching treatments, or even preventing the condition to develop in the first place.
WBZ's Jim MacKay (@JimMacKayOnAir) reports.
