EAST BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Over 450 people have signed a petition to keep three chickens and their coop in an Eagle Square lot in East Boston.
Nonprofit Empower East Boston tried to make the industrialized area more pleasant by adding the chickens and coop in an area where the community could engage with them.
However, an animal control officer stumbled across the chickens and their coop and gave the nonprofit 24-hours to get rid of them since there was no issued permit.

The online campaign started from the nonprofit got a lot of activity from the residents of East Boston.
"This is a small victory, but it's definitely not the last thing that we want to fight," Deysi Gutierrez of Empower East Boston said.
Gutierrez said this issue goes beyond the chickens, and more about the ongoing displacement in the area.
"While we appreciate all the support on the chickens" Ryan Donnelly of Empower East Boston stated, "community governance and all residents of East Boston can also bond together and fight for the right of neighbors to remain in their homes and in this neighborhood."
