Hyde Park Man Held On $100,000 Bail After Teenager Killed In Boston Hotel

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Hyde Park man is being held on $100,000 bail after authorities say he was seen on video leaving a Boston hotel in the moments after a fatal shooting.

20-year-old Messiah Leggett of Hyde Park was arrested Thursday night shortly after a 17-year-old girl was found shot dead in a room at the Hyatt Regency Hotel near the Boston Common.

Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins' office said Leggett was arraigned Friday in Boston Municipal Court on possession of a firearm charges.

Assistant District Attorney William Kettlewell said in court Friday that Leggett "was seen on video" leaving the Hyatt hotel with two companions and crossing the Boston Common after the shooting Thursday night. He was then detained at the intersection of Spruce Street and Chestnut Street.

Kettlewell said police recovered a firearm near where Leggett and his two juvenile companions were stopped by police, and in speaking to officers, Leggett acknowledged his possession of the firearm inside the hotel room where the deceased 17-year-old girl was found.

"My office is working closely with Boston Police detectives to learn exactly what transpired in that hotel resulting in the loss of this juvenile’s life," D.A. Rachel Rollins said. "We will not rest until we know how this teenaged girl was fatally wounded. This is an active death investigation and my heart goes out to the family and loved ones of this victim."

The judge ordered Leggett to be held on $100,000 bail, and revoked his bail for 60 days on a gun charge out of West Roxbury.
