BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — While Sunday will certainly bring Easter celebrations and get togethers centered around egg hunts and chocolates for some, for Lord of the Rings fans in the Boston area, there is a celebration and a get together like none other at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline. A tradition that occurs annually in which the historic theater screens all three films back-to-back-to-back! The tradition has become so popular that they had to do it twice this year. WBZ’s Kyle Bray spoke to Coolidge’s director Mark Anastasio about the event, which started in 2012.

“The people coming out and spending the day here, you couldn’t ask for a better group of fans of a particular film series to come and hang out with for 12 hours,” he said.

It was in 2012 when the theater presented the Coolidge award to Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen, who made an appearance at the premiere marathon screening.

“We had Viggo Mortensen on stage to present Return of the King at that screening, and it was one of the most amazing moments I had ever seen,” he said.

Tickets for the all-day movie festival are available now by visiting the Coolidge’s website.
