LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Thursday, Absolutely Incredible Kid Day at Washington Elementary School reminded children of how special they are and how much their loved ones value them.
The program was run by the North Shore location of Camp Fire, a national organization that helps children connect to “the outdoors, to others, and to themselves” through school programming and summer camps.
On a local level, Camp Fire North Shore serves children across the North Shore area through programs such as their state-licensed After School Program, Self-Reliance Program, Teens In Action, and a nine-week summer camp for kids ages 5-13.

Absolutely Incredible Kid Day is a national holiday celebrated every third Thursday of March, when millions of people write to or tell a young person in their life why they’re important and “what makes them amazing.”
Washington Elementary celebrated the day on March 14, alongside the mayor of Lynn and the executive director of Camp Fire North Shore.

Mayor Jared Nicholson shared why a day like that is so valuable. “It’s a lot of fun, and it’s an important message for the kids.”
He explained how the messages impact the children. “I think it shows that folks in this community really care about them and are rooting for them and are there for them.”

“Absolutely Incredible Kid Day is a time to celebrate our incredible students,” said Washington Elementary School Principal Anthony Frye.
Each child was presented with a handwritten letter from their loved ones.
“It’s amazing to see… those written letters [and] the emotions those bring out," said Laurie Hamill, who is the executive director of Camp Fire North Shore.

One mother read the letter out loud to her daughter, who smiled as she heard the message. “Today is a special day where you know how special you are for mom and dad every day.”
Another child read the letter written by her parents. “You are amazing. Never forget it.”
