ROCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police shot and killed a man in Rochester, New Hampshire Friday night, authorities said.
Rochester Police intercepted Joseph Russell, 36, while he was driving on Route 16 near Gooseberry Circle. Police said Russell was wanted in connection with multiple car thefts in Rochester, and Lebanon, Maine.

Russell abandoned the car he was driving and fled on foot into the Gooseberry Circle residential area, police said. Rochester Police and New Hampshire State Police pursued Russell and told him to surrender, but when Russell refused to comply, a State Trooper K-9 brought Russell to the ground, officials said.
According to police, they saw Russell pull out a firearm and two troopers shot him.
Russell was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said no one else was hurt and there is no threat to the public.
An investigation into the officer-involved shooting is underway. An autopsy for Russell is scheduled for Saturday.
