HARDWICK, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — John Pondelli was a longtime customer of the Whistle Stop Restaurant before it closed two years ago.

"I loved their breakfast," Pondelli told WBZ's Matt Shearer. "I used to love the bacon eggs empanadas."

Lucky for Pondelli, he's the owner of the Massachusetts Central Railroad that runs past the restaurant, which used to be a stop on the railroad, and the land around it, so he decided to buy the restaurant and reopen it.

The newly reopened Whistle Stop Restaurant will have the same menu it did before it closed and will eventually feature an even bigger dining room to accommodate more guests. Pondelli said he's hoping to have the restaurant be a train stop once again for his tourist trains along the Massachusetts Central Railroad.

Pondelli said the first thing he needs to do before he can expand is to get his employees ready for a grand reopening.

"I'm no cook," Pondelli said. "If I start cooking here we'll have no customers."
