FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — When someone suffers a traumatic injury, time is of the essence to ensure the highest possible survival rate. Thanks to a new tool that has been engineered by Artificial Intelligence, the assessment time has been cut down substantially.
The Echonous Kosmos Torso 1 Probes is the latest state-of-the-art technology supported by AI. The Foxborough Fire Department is the first in the state to utilize this system. The primary advantage of this system is that it will provide first responders with an enhanced look at what lies beneath the skin, such as significant internal bleeding in patients.
“We can look for free fluid, or what could be implied as blood [in the] abdomen, which gives us more information than we might not have had previously by just looking at a set of vital signs,” said Foxborough Fire Department Deputy Chief Tom Kevlin.
“We’ve seen a decrease in healthcare access with Norwood Hospital and Brockton Hospital being closed, and by using the AI assistant it gives us that next level of interpretation,” Kevlin added.
The Foxborough Fire Department expects that while they may be the first in the Commonwealth to implement this new technology, they will certainly not be the last, as they expect this to become the new gold standard going into the future.
Brian Foley, a paramedic, has said that the technology is very user friendly.
“Some people describe [the apparatus] as being a better version of a stethoscope for assessing [the] heart and lungs.”
