Pembroke Mourns Young Men Killed In Car Crash

PEMBROKE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two Pembroke men are being mourned by their community after being killed in a deadly rollover early on Saturday.

Joey Birolini and Billy Hickey are remembered as beloved sons, classmates and hockey players by the community. The pair graduated Pembroke High School in 2016.

Pembroke High Principal Marc Talbot said the school's "hearts are heavy today."

GoFundMe fundraisers have been started for the Birolini and Hickey families, and as of Sunday evening had raised nearly $175,000 for funeral expenses and other costs.

The Plymouth County D.A. said Hickey and Briolini were driving along Elm Street in Pembroke at around 1:00 AM on Saturday when their car swerved off the road and hit a tree, rolled over, and hit a utility pole.

The DA's office says the investigation on the cause of the crash is still ongoing, but that speed and bad weather may have been factors.

As of Sunday, a small memorial with flowers and hockey jersey sat at the scene of the crash.
