BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Red Sox introduced their new Patriot's Day weekend jerseys on Tuesday. The jerseys, part of a partnership between Nike and Major League Baseball, are bright yellow and electric blue, to honor the Boston Marathon finish line. The Marathon is one of the city's oldest sporting traditions.
The club will wear the jerseys on Patriots' Day weekend while playing the Chicago White Sox, on April 17 and 18. The jersey features the Boston area code 617 on the left sleeve, in the form of a marathon racing bib.
The Red Sox will wear their annual "B-Strong" jerseys on Patriots' Day, as they have done every year on Patriots' Day since the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
Red Sox Executive Vice President Adam Grossman said the decision to use the marathon colors “...pays homage to that iconic weekend, and recognizes Boston’s boldness, culture and creativity.”
A group of local artists had a hand in the design, including Rob Gibbs, co-founder and director at Artists For Humanity.
The uniforms are part of the Nike MLB City Connect series, which will feature other teams such as the Miami Marlins and the Chicago Cubs throughout the spring and summer.
