PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — When a local teenager and Boy Scout from Peabody was choosing his Eagle Scout project, he thought about ways he could give back to the community.

17-year-old Aiden Walsh finally decided to tackle a problem he faced regularly growing up.

Having to cross a muddy trail that connects Lalikos Park to the Peabody Independence Greenway.

The trail is notoriously unsafe for bikes, wheelchairs, strollers, anything other than using two feet, preferably with boots on.

Aiden said he regularly had to carry his bike to cross the trail safely.

"The mud path... is insanely hard to travel through," he said.

So, Aiden decided to enlist some volunteers who knew something about construction and build a footbridge over the trail allowing people to cross it safely.

A close friend who works in construction is overseeing the project.

Aiden's dad is helping out too.

They hope to complete the project transforming a muddy trench into a safe pathway this week.
