LEXINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — International Women's Day was Friday and Wilson Farm in Lexington celebrated it all weekend long.
The farm on Pleasant Street rolled out the red carpet for more than a dozen women-led and women-owned businesses, dedicating a tent outside the main store for them to sell their goods.
"There are a lot of amazing women that actually work with Wilson Farm, and we thought what a great opportunity to use International Women’s Day," Christine Myung of Wilson Farm said Sunday.
Vendors included Maya Hachem, who owns Za'atar Road. Hachem was selling spice mixes that she imports from her native Lebanon.
"I don’t want any woman to stop moving forward, doing what she wants to do, and crushing it every day," Hachem told WBZ NewsRadio.
A few steps away was Dorothy Chapman, owner of Mom's Indoor Cat, selling cat grass. Chapman mentioned the reward of starting a business as a mother.
"Starting a business as a mom is great because it gives me flexibility to be with my son and help him grow up and show him that working hard, you can achieve whatever you need to achieve," Chapman said.
Shubh Khandelwal is also a mother. When she started Shubh Kitchen, her eggless baked goods company, in 2017, it was tricky to juggle home life and a new business.
"I started everything at home. Initially I was not working, so stepping out of the home was the biggest challenge for me," Khandelwal said.
Wilson Farm's next event invites kids and adults to plant a sunflower in the garden shop next weekend.
