NightSide with Dan Rea - Rundown for 1/18/18

What’s Flu with You?  Experts predicted last fall that this year’s flu season would be especially bad.  So far, those predictions have been right on the money.  To top it off, some projections have estimated that this year’s version of the flu shot could be merely ten percent effective in warding off the disease.  For the first time ever, the CDC has officially declared that the flu is “widespread” in every single continental U.S. state.  Earlier this week in Texas, an entire school district shut down due to flu concerns.  So why is this year such a tough year for the flu?  Dr. Larry Madoff, Director of the Division of Epidemiology and Immunization for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, joins Dan in the NightSide studio to talk about why the flu has hit so hard this year, whether it’s too late to get your flu shot, and how to prevent or limit your exposure.  Has the flu hit your house or workplace this year?  Call in and join the conversation!

WBZ Cares!  As part of our ongoing WBZ Cares series, we take some time once a month to recognize a local charitable organization and the good work they do in the Greater Boston area.  This month, WBZ is featuring the Greater Boston Food Bank.  Tonight, Dan is joined in studio by Catherine D’Amato, President of the Greater Boston Food Bank.  She’ll talk about the history of the organization, some upcoming events to watch out for, and how you can find out more or get involved.  Call in with your comments or questions and add your voice to the mix!

Doctor, Doctor, Give Me The News!  President Trump’s doctor actually held a press conference this week, in part to put to rest rumors regarding the President’s physical and mental health.  After delivering his report of a clean bill of health, Dr. Ronny Jackson fielded questions from the media.  Despite his consistent statements that the President was in excellent health and has very good genes, media members continued to press him on the President’s mental health and overall wellness.  Are you surprised to see such scrutiny over a President’s physical?  Or is this just another example of mainstream media’s anti-Trump bias?  Call in and be heard!
