BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A winter festival for hockey fans is coming to Boston just days before the Winter Classic. The National Hockey League is holding the two-day Winter Classic Plaza outdoor winter festival on New Year's Eve weekend for all to attend.

City Hall Plaza will hold the fan festival free of charge on December 30 from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. and December 31 from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. The event will have hockey-themed activities, autograph signings, and appearances from several Boston Bruins alumni, event organizers said.

“We’re excited to host Bruins fans and Boston families for one of the first big events on City Hall Plaza since we reopened the space,” said Mayor Michelle Wu in a statement. “Especially during the colder months we need spaces to bring people together. I encourage everyone to come out to build community and get ready to cheer on the Bruins.”

Event organizers said the event will feature some current and former Boston Bruins players, but have not mentioned who will be making an appearance. There will be giveaways, food, and an opportunity to take a photo with the Stanley Cup.

The Winter Classic Plaza event is being held just days before the NHL Winter Classic where fans will be able to watch the Bruins face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins for an outdoor game at Fenway Park on January 2.
