BEVERLY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Remember Shoebert? Beverly's neighborhood seal that made Shoe Pond his home for nine days over the summer?

A book about the seal's adventure is available for purchase after two Shoebert admirers decided to make a children's book, all about Shoebert.

Shoebert had many fans during his brief stay, one of which was Stanley Forman, a local news photographer, and two-time Pulitzer winner.

"I was hooked and I was here twice a day every day for nine days," Forman said about his time with Shoebert.

After Shoebert "turned himself in" to the authorities and was later released back into the ocean, Forman's wife, Debbie, suggested the two write a children's book all about the seal. With Forman's pictures and Debbie's narration of the event from Shoebert's point of view, they created "Shoebert's Great Adventure."

While seeing Shoebert was a great experience for Forman, he also enjoyed watching others' reactions while they admired Shoebert.

"Kids pointing, laughing, smiling, parents [and] everybody trying to get a picture, it was a wonderful event," he said. "It was fascinating."

Forman says creating the children's book with his wife was one of the most fun projects he has done in his 55-year career. "Shoebert's Great Adventure" can be found on blurb.com.
