NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Many customers who have tried online grocery shopping have experienced receiving surprise substitutions or wilted produce. One local grocery store is working to change that... but you can't shop for yourself.

Addie's will be opening in Norwood, just off of the Automile, and caters to busy families who don't have time to shop. Customers order online through an app and pick it up at the store.

"We started this business to help take care of folks just like us who want to get what they need, healthy food, so we can make a home-cooked meal and share that with our loved ones," Jim McQuade, Addie's CEO and co-founder, told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe.

Unlike apps that hire someone to do your grocery shopping, Addie's staff shops for customers so if an item is available online it is guaranteed to be available for shoppers. McQuade said they have full control of inventory and visibility allowing them to make promises to customers they can keep. Grocery items will never be replaced with an item from another brand without customer knowledge, a problem some people face when using online grocery shopping.

"By reimaging the entire operation from the ground up we help solve a lot of the challenges that exist with online grocery. Doing so allows us to make sure that every promise we make to customers we can help them out with," McQuade said.

The grocery pick-up service is set to open in November. There is a waiting list shoppers can add their names to to receive special offers and an invitation when Addie's opens.
