Thousands In New Hampshire Without Electricity, Crews Work To Restore Power

CONCORD, New Hampshire (WBZ NewsRadio) — The first winter storm of the season made its way through New England leaving thousands without power on Friday.

At 7 A.M. Saturday morning, more than 50,000 customers were left without power across New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Department of Safety said. Crews are working to clear roads and restore power as the storm continues in some parts of the state on Saturday.

Eversource announced they restored power to about 40,000 customers Saturday morning, with hundreds of additional crews being sent out.

“Crews are working to restore power quickly,” Robert Buxton, director of the New Hampshire department of safety’s division of homeland security and emergency management said in a statement. “We are in contact with our partners at the Department of Energy and the Public Utilities Commission.”

A winter storm warning was in effect, as some areas in northern New Hampshire and Maine were hit with heavy snowfall leaving eight to 12 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents are being asked to drive with caution and report any down power lines they encounter.
