DEDHAM, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Some art supporters in Dedham have a challenge in front of them as they work to create a performance center.
If they raise enough money before the end of the month, then the state will match it.
Mass Development's Commonwealth Places has told the folks at the Motherbrook Arts and Community Center that if they can raise $50,000 dollars before June 28, the state will match it.
Dan Hart, who's on the Motherbrook Board, says they could use the money to turn an old gym into a performing arts center he says Dedham is a great community.
He tells WBZ NewsRadio1030’s Carl Stevens they've been in the perpetual process of converting the old elementary school gym built in 1921 into a first-rate performance center.
“There are different opportunities for both youth and adults in Dedham but it always seems as though there's a gap where the arts are concerned,” he said.
They're more than half way toward their goal. To date they have raised $28,385 out of their $50,000 goal.
Contributions will go towards renovating and converting the gym
