President Trump Visits North Carolina Following Hurricane Florence

President Donald Trump speaks at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina

President Donald Trump visited North Carolina just days after Hurricane Florence dumped a record amount of rain in the state. The president arrived at Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, North Carolina, and took part in a briefing with FEMA and local officials including North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.

"Hurricane Florence was one of the most powerful storms ever to hit the Carolinas, one of the most powerful and devastating storms ever to hit our country," Trump said. "To the families who have lost loved ones, America grieves with you and our hearts break for you. God bless you. We will never forget your loss. We will never leave your side. We are with you all the way."

Trump said that the clean-up would be expensive but promised that the federal government is ready to help out.

“We will be there 100 percent,” Trump said. “We’re getting all teed up for a lot of money coming down to the area.”

After the briefing, Trump headed to a Baptist church in New Bern, North Carolina, where he was given a tour of the staging area for relief work.

"He wanted to see the areas hit the hardest, most impacted by the flooding," White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters aboard Air Force One. "He also wanted a full overview from state and local officials in both states. He wanted to make sure he met with the people in those areas.”
