R.I. Girl Hit By Car While Riding Bike Instead of Bus Because of Strike

PROVIDENCE, RI  (WBZ-AM)-- A 13-year-old Rhode Island girl riding her bike to school, after a school bus strike cancelled her usual ride has been struck and injured by a car. 

Officials say the student from the Nathan Bishop middle School, was using a rent-a-bike from a sharing service when the accident happened around 8:30am this morning. She was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital with with minor leg injuries. The driver has not been charged.

Some 200 Providence school bus drivers went on strike this morning after final negotiations over retirement benefits failed.
