LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP/WBZ-AM) — The utility behind September's natural gas explosions in the Merrimack Valley is serving up Thanksgiving dinners to residents still without heat or hot water in their homes.

Columbia Gas says the roughly 20,000 meals they're providing Thursday will be served at temporary trailer parks set up in the affected communities of Lawrence, Andover and North Andover where some residents are being housed.

The meals are being provided by Joe Faro, CEO of Tuscan Kitchen,

Faro, a Lawrence native and  team of dedicated team of 600 employees has been turning out meals daily for three thousand relief workers at a site he donated as the Columbia gas field headquarters in the last couple of months.

All have been hard at work since before sunrise Thursday turning out turkey and all the trimmings so those who can't cook at home can still have a meal to be thankful for.

They'll also be distributed at a hall in Lawrence and other locations for takeout.

About 7,500 people are currently in trailers or other temporary housing.

The Sept. 13 disaster killed one person, injured dozens more and destroyed or damaged more than 100 homes. Thousands of homes and businesses also lost gas service.

Columbia says it hopes to have gas service fully restored by mid-December.
