Lynn Man Steals Car With Baby In Backseat

LYNN, MA  (WBZ-AM)--According to NECN, a Lynn man is facing charges after stealing two cars, one with a baby in the backseat.  Lynn police say Jonathan Leighton stole the car of a good Samaritan who had stopped to help him after the already stolen car he was driving broke down. He did not realize a 1-year-old child was in the backseat. 

The child's father tried to get in the car to stop the carjacker causing the car to go out of control and hit parked cars and a nearby unmarked police cruiser. Leighton then fled from the car but was stopped and taken into custody by officers. he has been charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, carjacking, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property. 

The child was not hurt.
