BOSTON (WBZ-AM) — Orleans native and custom knife maker Lucas Burnley — whose Cape Cod charity holds an annual 24-hour raffle to raise money for Toys for Tots — aided another Toys for Tots program in Connecticut.

Burnley had raised $92,000 for Christmas gifts during the 24-hour raffle for Cape Cod children whose families could not afford them, when he learned a church in Connecticut had been robbed.

“My mother-in-law mentioned that she saw on the news that a church in Connecticut, that was the Toys for Tots drop-off location, had been robbed and all of the donations stolen,” Burnley said. “At that point I just, basically, decided I was gonna split it. We … instantly started shopping for toys for the church down in Connecticut,”

According to WHDH, Burnley brought about $45,000 worth of toys to the church.

Great Bridgeport Christian Community Fellowship Pastor Eric Torres is grateful for Burnley’s generosity and said the church is eager to get the gifts out to the children.
