BOSTON (WBZ-AM) — An exhibition of sculpted ice, worth about $10,000, will be on display at the Boston First Night celebration Monday.

Experts are currently working on the sculptures that will be on display in Copley Plaza. Sculptures will depict famous landmarks from around the world, including the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower.

“Our sculptures this year are based around the theme of First Night, which is ‘Around the World,’ so they are international themed sculptures,” ice sculptor Steve Rose said.

Rose has been sculpting ice for over 30 years. He said some of the sculpting was done in a studio Saturday night, and that the sculptures will be transported to Copley Square and the Boston Common Monday morning.

“The ice … is a massive block, so they’d hold up no matter what,” Rose said.

Each block costs $50 and weighs 350. Rose said for the entire event he will be using a couple hundred blocks.
