SALEM, N.J. (WBZ-AM) — A man allegedly fired shots from the roof of a building on Wednesday in Salem, N.J. according to CBS Philadelphia. Police are reportedly engaged in a standoff with the man.

"There was some initial reporting of an active shooter," Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said. "The best information we have right now is that it's a standoff between law enforcement and a fugitive they were in the course of attempting to arrest, and there were some shots fired."

According to the Grewal, the situation appears to be a "contained situation."

Police were called to the scene around noon. The town’s middle school and county government offices are shut down as police investigate.
