BURLINGTON, VT (WBZ NewsRadio) — A University of Vermont Freshman is found dead in the parking lot of a North Winooski Ave. business in Burlington.

Police say they responded to a 9-1-1 call Saturday morning regarding an unresponsive male behind the building. Emergency workers tried to resuscitate 19 year old Connor Gage from Little Falls, NY but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities do not suspect foul play. In a statement the Burlington Police say Gage died after he tried to take a short cut through the back parking lot of the business but was blocked by a fence and succumbed to the frigid weather because of inadequate clothing. Temperatures Saturday night ranged between 1 and 4 degrees below zero.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine if alcohol played a role in his death.

According to University officials, Gage was a major in Neuroscience at the School of Arts and Sciences. They are offering counseling services to students.
