GREENWOOD, ME (WBZ NewsRadio) — A pregnant Massachusetts woman and her unborn child are killed in a snowmobile crash in Maine Saturday.

The state’s Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife reports 30-year-old Elizabeth Abelson of Gloucester was driving a snowmobile on a trail in Greenwood, Maine, when she lost control and was ejected from the vehicle into trees. Officials say she was operating a recently purchased 2019 Ski-Doo Grand Touring snowmobile and was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Authorities say both she and her unborn child were pronounced dead at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, Maine. The baby was due in March.

Abelson was driving with her husband Stuart at the time of the accident. He is a chief executive officer of Ora Inc., a clinical research company based in Andover.

The Maine medical examiner is investigating the crash.
