CAPE COD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Three beaches on Cape Cod were closed for several hours Saturday afternoon after great white sharks were sighted close to shore. The warning was issued by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.
According to their “Sharktivity” app, the first shark was spotted around 1:40 p.m. Saturday off the Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro causing beach closures at that beach and the nearby Coast Guard Beach until the all clear was given. A second hour long closure at the Head of the Meadow Beach happened at 3p.m.
Nauset Beach in Orleans also had a sighting of a great white 50 yards off shore resulting in another hour long closure.
Officials are remaining vigilant after last year's two shark attacks - one fatal - off Outer Cape Beaches.
