BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - As much of the U.S. is getting pounded by wintry weather, dozens of flights out of Logan Airport are feeling the consequences. The arrival and departure boards are lit with cancelations and delays as Americans make a mad-dash ahead of the Christmas holiday.

Thousands of flights across the country have been canceled due to a massive winter storm blowing through the Midwest. While we won't see snow in our neck of the woods, the weather has created a trickle-down effect, stalling planes across the board.

The TSA says Thursday, Dec 22 and Friday Dec. 30 are expected to be the worst days to travel.

WBZ's James Rojas was at Logan on Thursday morning among the thousands waiting in long lines in the hopes of getting to their destinations on time.

As of Thursday morning there were around 30 cancelations and roughly two dozen delays, but those numbers are expected to rise through out the day.

On Wednesday Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg urged travelers to give themselves extra time and reminded passengers they have rights.

"Airlines can't control the weather but they're still responsible for certain things like offering a refund if your flight gets canceled for any reason." He said.

Most airlines are offering travel waivers, allowing passengers with certain destinations to change or cancel their flights at no extra charge.
