BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new CVS pharmacy is coming to Nubian Square in Roxbury this July.
Big red signs that read “coming soon” can be seen at 32 Warren Street across from the Nubian Square bus depot.
This comes as many pharmacies across the state are closing their doors.
According to a report released last fall from the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission, nearly 200 pharmacies have closed in Massachusetts since 2019.
That report also says that nearly 600,000 Massachusetts residents live in a pharmacy desert, which is an area where residents lack reasonable walking access to a local pharmacy.
Andre Victorian said he was excited that a new pharmacy is coming to Nubian Square.
“[People] need their medication,” Victorian said. “It used to be [that] everybody got it over there. Now they’re all closed.”
The Boston City Council is looking into making a new fund that would support drug stores.
