BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Michelle Wu declared a cold emergency for Friday Jan. 23 through Sunday, Jan. 25. ahead of the winter storm hitting Massachusetts.
According to AccuWeather, temperatures are expected to be in the mid-teens all the way down to -15 degrees this weekend.
“During these harsh conditions, please plan ahead to stay warm, look out for your neighbors and take all necessary precautions to stay safe,” Wu said. “Our City departments are working around the clock to ensure all Boston residents are connected to the resources they need in a cold emergency.”

Wu advised Boston residents to take precautions during the cold weather and to check in on older adults, people with disabilities, and people experiencing homelessness. Residents are encouraged to call 911 if anyone comes across someone experiencing homelessness out in the cold or if they are aware of those staying in a vehicle or location not suitable for living in extremely cold temperatures.
Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) Community Centers have been activated as warming centers and will remain open during their normal operating hours. The Boston Public Library in Copley Square, and other branch locations, will also remain open for their normal hours.
