BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Public Schools are on alert after a man was discovered in a Dorchester school before classes began on Tuesday morning.

A teacher at the Richard J. Murphy K-8 School in Dorchester told police she arrived at school at about 7:30 AM to find her classroom door shut, which she said was unusual.

The teacher said entered the room and saw an unknown man walking out of the classroom closet, and says she froze as the man ran by her and fled the school.

Boston Police said there didn't seem to be any forced entry to the school. They said it was possible the rear door was left ajar by mistake.

Police described the man as a white with matted black hair, wearing a ripped white t-shirt and no shoes or socks.

A district spokesperson told WBZ NewsRadio that school staff swept the building last night and will keep doing so every night "for the foreseeable" future. "We will determine what additional safety measures can be taken at the school to ensure that this does not happen again," the spokesperson said.
