HATCHVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Cape Cod mom is using her grief to make the world a kinder place.
Brooke DeBarros launched the Team Chase Foundation nonprofit after the death of her son, Chase Soares, on Feb. 15, 2020.
Though the grief was difficult, stories of Soares' kindness helped her overcome the hardship.
"I have to keep his kindness going," DeBarros said. "I was first going to start with a business card and somebody said, 'you should really do a basketball — like a round circle ball — because that was his passion.'"
DeBarros made the "Chase Kindness Ball," a coaster-sized disk in the design of a basketball, soccer ball or hockey puck, each with a QR code that allows you to document your act of kindness and mark where it happened before you hand the disk forward to someone else.
So far, over 1,400 acts of kindness have been tracked across six continents.
Along with her youngest son, the two travel to 10 states to do random acts of kindness, all to keep Soares' spirit of kindness alive.
