BOSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Transportation Department is planning to give Cleveland circle in Brighton significant changes in efforts to fix safety concerns like dangerous crosswalks, confusing parking, and a lack of protected bike lanes.
With awkwardly angled parking being among the biggest safety hazards, eliminating front-in angle parking westbound is among the biggest changes that are being considered. The city says the current parking state causes crashes because drivers have to reverse into oncoming traffic.
Residents have complained that Cleveland circle is too dangerous to navigate on foot or by bike. One Boston resident says, “cars kind of go barreling through here so fast", another resident says they want to see “something to make it easier for people to cross because it feels a little dangerous right now."
Among these safety concerns, there are also abandoned buildings on an entire side of the intersection. One person in the area says a good addition to the project would be "a supermarket; I feel like that's probably the biggest thing."
Although it's in the early stages of planning, the city of Boston has opened up public feedback; residents may submit ideas to the city on its website.
