NEW LONDON, Conn. (WBZ NewsRadio) – Connecticut College is the first college campus in New England to return to remote learning.

On Thursday the college cancelled all classes and athletic activities as they shifted from an Alert Level 1-Green to an Alert Level 3-Orange.

The Alert Level 3-Orange means on-campus operations are reduced because of a rising number of positive Covid tests and potential exposures.

Parts of the college may also be subject to cautionary quarantine to help limit movement and minimize in-person contact or transmission of the disease.

In a statement, the school said their Covid-19 testing center will remain open and that students with symptoms should contact health services.

“Critical staff will be on campus to manage dining operations, campus safety and other critical functions,” the college said.

Non-critical staff were given the option to work remotely or on campus when scheduled.

“We ask that everyone who does come to campus to be rigorous in following protocols on mask-wearing,” the college continued.

More information on Alert Level 3-Orange operations at the school can be found on the school's Path Forward website. The college also releases updated information on tests and positivity rates on their Covid-19 Dashboard.
