BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new semi-pro soccer team representing Boston’s biggest neighborhood has wrapped up its debut season.

Dorchester City FC was formed last year by Dorchester native Filipe Oliveria, making the team a relatively recent addition to the United Premier Soccer League.

Head coach Robert Alexander, also a Massachusetts native, said the sport has a strong following and deep talent in the community.

“Because there are so many different ethnicities existing in the neighborhood, there is a strong love for the international game,” Alexander said.

The team also provided an outlet for talented local players.

“There was not a ton of opportunities for players in the neighborhood to showcase their skills with the Dorchester name on their shirt,” Alexander said.

Although Dot City FC ended the season 3-7, Alexander said he has hope that the team will continue getting better. He thinks the 2026 World Cup games hosted at Gillette Stadium will add some interest and profile to soccer in the Boston-area, and hopefully some interest in the team.

“The fans will start to notice that there is quality soccer being played in the Boston area, not necessarily just down the road at Foxborough,” Alexander said.
