FALL RIVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police in Fall River announced they have one person in custody following a double homicide.

Officers said they got a call to a house on Aetna Street around 9 p.m. on Wednesday that reported shots fired.

Upon arrival, authorities found 20-year-old Whitman resident Pablo Henrique Rocha-Dasilva and 19-year-old Fall River resident Eduardo Cardosa DaSilva both unresponsive and in a pool of blood.

Police say one of the men had a pitchfork impaled in the back of his head.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office confirmed on Thursday that both men died from the incident.

During the investigations, State Troopers assisting in the search spotted the suspect, 28-year-old Vitor Francisco Gomes of Fall River. Authorities said Gomes was ‘covered in blood’ when they approached him.

Gomes allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was stopped and arrested. He was found with a bag holding a gun and ammunition inside.

Gomes was charged with two counts of murder, unlawful carrying of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

During an arraignment on Thursday morning, Gomes pled not guilty to all charges, and was ordered held without bail. His next court date is scheduled for July 14.

Fall River Police said the investigation on Aetna Street is still ongoing and have advised people to avoid the area.
