BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — An annual Boston holiday event is getting an upgrade to usher in 2023— offering more performances on New Year's Day.

First Night Boston 2023 will be held in Copley Square opens with a parade and features plenty of dance displays, ice sculptures, a laser show, and musical concerts for all those who attend. As the clock inches towards midnight a "First Night Copley Countdown" will take place with the climax being a "Midnight Pyrotechnics Display." The ice sculptures in front of Trinity Church and the Boston Public Library will have the theme of "Boston Tea Party's 250th Anniversary," which takes place next year.

But the First Night festivities don't end there, as the "night" bash bleeds over into the first day of 2023.

On New Year's Day, there will be musical performances from singer and songwriter LaQuandra Seymore and Guess Method, a group that specializes in psychedelic rock, jazz, and pop music.

WBZ's Jim MacKay spoke to some Bostonians about what they have planned for New Year's Eve.

"The sound up here when midnight strikes and everything goes off— it's incredible to hear the crowd up here," said Brian of Lynn.

"It feels like we went through the worst of it and now we're trying to figure out how to get back to a normal," said Lisa of Cambridge.
