BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As Bay Staters start making their Memorial Day plans, one issue is top of mind — gas.
An estimated 39 million people will travel by car for Memorial Day, a record number, according to AAA, even though experts predict gas will be at least $5 or higher by the holiday weekend
The current rate per gallon for gas in Massachusetts is almost $4.50. And AAA estimates $39 million will drive off for the holiday weekend.
Some residents with plans for Memorial Day say they're not super keen on them thanks to the price of gas.
"Going up to Vermont, way upstate, it's a wedding. I gotta do it, but I'm not happy about $200 and whatever it's gonna cost me in gas."

While some think President Trump will remedy the matter soon, others are skeptical.
"It's looking like it's gonna be a while, I'm not gonna lie," one person said. "You know, we're gonna try to do the best we can, I guess."
According to AAA, Mississippi and Oklahoma currently have the lowest gas prices in the nation, reaching nearly $4 per gallon. California and Washington are home to the highest prices, surpassing $5 per gallon. Massachusetts ranks 24th among the states with the highest gas prices in America.
